The Black Church is an institution in the African American community. Its role in the Civil Rights Movement and bedrock presence in the African American community is both acknowledged and celebrated. But in many quarters of the Black Community, the so-called Black Church has abdicated its spiritual and social mandates. As the Prosperity Gospel has become a more pronounced message in the Christian community and national discussions such as Same Sex Marriage have sparked discord, a nagging question emerges: Is the Black Church still relevant? In a two-part series entitled, ‘THE STATE OF THE BLACK CHURCH,’ ‘COMMUNITY VOICES’ host, Ron Holland explores the issue with Co-Pastor and Author, Rev. Myra Bellinger, Author and Lecturer, Joel Bryant and Wanda Reid of Radio One Charlotte.
Sure, it’s true that not everybody wants to be in a relationship. Some people are perfectly content being single, and it is more than possible to live a fully satisfying life by staying that way. But the fact of the matter is I still believe the majority of people would at least welcome the idea of coming across a man or woman who they can see as an equal, a teammate, a lover, and a friend.
I believe this to be true because that is what my experience tells me. From the countless conversations I have had with both men and women, as well as personal experience, I can vouch for the idea that having the right person in your life enhances your experiences. They keep you smiling, they dull your pain, and they brighten your happiness.
There are a million different articles, videos, books, and pieces of media you…

If reading this is your first introduction to my writing, I feel the need to give a disclaimer. I am writing this article because I published a male version a few months ago and fair is fair, ladies…I also typically write on equality, love, and respect.
That being said – while women are more likely to speak up about their dating dissatisfaction than men are, I think it’s equally as important to discuss both sides of the coin.
So, how does a good woman with class act when in a relationship?
A good woman moves past petty jealousies.
While some jealousy [protectiveness] is natural in a relationship, it’s important that both partners are secure enough in themselves and each other to know where to focus their energy.
A mature woman will allow the man in her life to have his freedom, providing he doesn’t betray her trust.

He’s one of the best basketball players in the country, and he’s preparing for Monday night’s NCAA championship game, yet the University of Connecticut’s Shabazz Napier recently told reporters he sometimes goes to bed “starving” because he can’t afford food.
The remark got the attention of state lawmakers in Connecticut, who are now exploring legislative ways to allow athletes at UConn, a state institution, to unionize — much like athletes are attempting at Northwestern University.
State Rep. Matthew Lesser and other state lawmakers are considering legislation that would allow athletes at the University of Connecticut to unionize, Lesser said. Unlike at Northwestern, a private institution governed by the National Labor Relations Board, Connecticut law governs whether employees at a public institution can unionize.
“He says he’s going to bed hungry at a time when millions of dollars are being made off of him. It’s obscene,” Lesser said. “This isn’t…

TV?s Judge Joe Brown was jailed on a contempt of court charge issued by a Tennessee juvenile judge Monday, according to a court spokesman.
Brown, 66, was sentenced to five days in jail after he became ?pretty raucous? and ?challenged the authority? of Magistrate Harold Horne, another judge told CNN. He was later released on his own recognizance, CNN Memphis affiliate WMC-TV reported, citing the Shelby County Sheriff?s Office.
Brown, a former Shelby County criminal judge, was in court to represent a client in a child-support case. He apparently became upset when he was told the case was not on the afternoon docket, Chief Magistrate Dan Michael said.
Horne, who ?is a real laid-back guy,? gave Brown several chances to calm down before finding him in contempt, Michael said.
Horne held Brown was in contempt five times ?before they were able to get him out of the courtroom,? Michael said.

I’ve made posts in the past about qualities of a gentleman, as well as the differences between a ‘bad boy’ and a jerk. But, how does this all translate into how somebody acts while in a relationship?
A man may be able to put across a great image, but it could simply be a cover for hidden shortcomings, or he could just be totally faking it to ‘get the girl.’
Here are some ways to know if you’ve struck gold:
A true gentleman values more than just your looks.
Is every compliment from him about a different body part? It doesn’t matter how creative he can be, if a guy’s sole focus is on how you look, or ‘talking dirty,’ see it as a red flag. A real man will value your personality, your kindness, your intelligence, and who you are as a person, in general. The things he…
